I’m starting to get lots of enquiries about my work as an AI Generative Video Director and creator. The page below contains samples of my AI Generative Video Director work – and more about my story first approach to AI video (whether for adverts or short films or feature films).
If you want to get in touch with me regards AI VIDEO DIRECTOR Work – contact me on matcoop23@yahoo.co.uk – for costs and availability.
But please read below and see if you think I’m a good fit for your project.

I’m Matthew Cooper, a BAFTA shortlisted scriptwriter and director, with over 200 hours of TV to my name, across all the UK broadcast networks (EastEnders for the BBC, Emmerdale for ITV, Hollyoaks for CH4 and Family Affairs for CH5) in a career that has spanned 25+ years.
As a director I’ve completed five feature films (4 microbudget horror films released to rave reviews) and Sober, a hilarious comedy drama starring Dean Smith (Waterloo Road/Still Open All Hours) and Tom Gibbons (Funny Cow/The Archers) which has become a YouTube Smash, and cleared 10,000 views in its first two days of release – watch it below…

I’m also an early adopter of AI video, and AI video directing and filmmaking.
I’ve been using AI video tools like Runway, Pika, Luma, LTX Studio, Freepik and Minimax for nearly two years now.
My main use for this has been narrative i.e. telling a story. But I have recently used the tool for mock advert promos like the below short aping the style of a Sky Sports broadcast:
Or this recent AI Spoof or a JET2 Advert.
Both of these recent parody adverts – have stirred up interest from marketing and advertising companies keen to hire me to direct / produce and edit real life ADVERTS for TV – using AI tools.
I tell stories for a living – and I use whatever tools I can to best realise the storytelling process. In some cases AI generative video is the best tool to use for narrative film and video.
I’m also a BAFTA shortlisted scriptwriter – and while AI can be used to generate ideas, and even write full scripts -the actual final scripts THAT I WORK from, must be HUMAN, and have fully human input in all parts, this is very important, as currently AI can only copy emotion, and only copy human traits, and I want the stories that I work on to be 100 authentically human in writing (not a photocopy or plastic copied and manufactured emotion).
A good example of my use of AI GENERATIVE VIDEO as a tool is the feature film below (H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth – which I directed), which was shot based on my script (an adaptation of a famous horror story) and was filmed in real locations with real life actors (no AI human, or metahumans). The whole film has a very human feel – but we used AI GENERATIVE VIDEO as a way to replace expensive CGI shots, or time consuming stop motion or practical effects (the whole feature film was completed from a budget of less than £2,000 which included the actors, travel costs, and 3 day location shoot as well as the AI generative video elements and the AI generated score).
In the film AI GENERATIVE video is used impressively (and cheaply) to create creature feature style shots (the film is essentially a monster movie) and we used AI text to video and image to video to essentially replace the use of CGI.
Currently, AI GENERATIVE VIDEO is best used as a replacement to expensive CGI – its not currently at a stage where it can be used as a replacement of live action on its own (although it improves daily) – but only as something (a tool) to enhance real actors and real performances. That is, unless you’re working in animation where AI tools are getting closer to being able to produce something PIXAR would be proud of.
I’ve come to this conclusion after two years spent experimenting with AI generative video (since the tools first came out) and while I have made some full GEN VID short films (a couple of which can be seen below), I wouldn’t recommend brands, or organisations, or even film producers rely solely on AI to make a movie / advert / or TV show (unless you want a CGI / PIXAR style feel to the show – but it is changing daily – currently, some TV adverts might be much better realised as AI generative video productions – adverts that rely on heavy CGI workflows. might be better made as AI Gen Vid first projects – see my JET2 Parody advert as a popular example.
Currently, as of today (24/01/25) the tools aren’t good enough to replace actors, or writers or proper locations (but AI Gen Vid can be used in conjunction with green screen or VP to help create locations that would otherwise be cost prohibative)
AI GEN VID IS currently good enough to enhance, and improve films and visual media and in some cases remove the need for expensive CGI altogether (which I believe currently is the best use case – as AI generative video is cheaper and good enough currently to removed almost the whole need for any CGI).
HOWEVER – since the arrival of Google VEO3 and the latest RUNWAY Update – we’re now at a time, where TV adverts for brands – made to be broadcast on the biggest platforms – can be made almost entirely with AI Generative VIDEO – as long as its the correct tool for the brand campaign (and not used as a cost cutter).
My feeling is that AI GEN video, works best, when its invisible – like many other filmmaking tools, you cannot let the audience see behind the curtain, and the audience won’t be able to suspend disbelief if they see something is obviously AI generated. Like an autotuned singer – the audiences can tell when you’ve hit a bum note.
AI gen video has made many things possible, the impossible possible – but that doesn’t mean any of that is interesting.
Audiences still respond to the same storytelling skills they always have – whatever the tools.
So, as a director / writer and filmmaker – and as an AI VIDEO DIRECTOR FOR HIRE I welcome and want to use AI – I do this, with a focus on storytelling, and making sure whatever tools are used that the audience can suspend disbelief – that’s an essential element of any film or TV show or narrative story – and its even more important when using AI Generative video tools as part of the process.
Here, below is my micro budget horror film – H.P. Lovecraft’s the Shadow Over Innsmouth which uses extensive AI Generative Video to replace CGI.
I tell stories with AI, that’s my job. Stories can be adverts, training videos, social media videos, documentaries, or more traditional film and TV formats.
AI video director for hire
I’m an expert in screen story telling – the art of SHOW and NOT TELL – and that’s what I use AI video for (along with all the other filmmaking tools available to best tell a story in the correct way).
If you want to contact me to hire me to direct an AI Advert or an AI narrative project , or a project that has elements of AI generative video – do drop me an email on: matcoop23@yahoo.co.uk
